Introducing Basic Technology to Kids

Feed them fish and they won’t go hungry for that meal — teach them fishing, and they will never go hungry. We are collaborating with the NGO Vigyan Ashram to implement the Introduction to Basic Technology (IBT) program in schools along ITNL’s Khed–Sinnar Highway Project. The program helps students learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) principles through practical application.

The students are involved in socially useful productive work and provide services like electrical and mechanical repair work to the village community as a part of their learning. Girls and boys are learning various engineering skills together, gradually breaking stereotypes of gendered work. These skills will provide the foundation for these children to grow in the 21st century.

As a part of the IBT program, we have also installed a 3D printer in a rural school in Gavdewai in Pune district. The printer is helping students experience how geometrical principles are used in 3D printing.
